The power of a group
Every day, poor women in poor countries around the world meet and support each other in groups. For women earning less than a dollar a day, these groups are an important — even a lifesaving — resource. The power of the group is expanded when Reach education is integrated into their meetings. New knowledge and skills enable women to cope with a family crisis, such as the threat of malaria or AIDS; manage life-cycle events in their communities, such as a contribution for a funeral or religious event; and seize new opportunities, such as starting or expanding businesses.
The power of life changing education
In a life defined by poverty, women still have one resource in abundance: the ability to learn and change. Reach Global's innovative approach to education transforms a shady spot under a village tree into a powerful learning opportunity. Reach education can be delivered easily by a wide variety of local organizations serving the rural poor. It is designed specifically to engage illiterate women and girls to think critically about issues affecting their health and livelihood, and how to make changes within their families and communities. With useful, relevant information they can put into action immediately, women change practices in crucial, measurable ways.
The power of a girl
Reach's education extends to adolescent girls, who join their mothers and mothers-in-law in savings groups, or form groups of their own. By integrating adolescent girls, groups bring the opportunity to save and learn to the next generation of women. Together, girls and their mothers become the most enthusiastic agents of change, igniting even broader social transformation within their communities.
The power of social enterprise
One billion people — one-sixth of humanity —live on less than a dollar a day. To reach as many people as possible, especially those living in rural areas, Reach Global looks for opportunities to harness private enterprise to sustain the delivery of essential services. In India, for example, Reach's franchise training network trains thousands of local organizations to deliver life changing education to hundreds of thousands of women and girls across the poorest states of east and northeast India.
In India, an established network of training centers sustains services to the rural poor into the future.
Strengthened and inspired by their new knowledge, and empowered by their relationships with each other, women and girls can change their lives and create a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
As women make decisions about their lives, they realize that knowledge is the key to increasing their choices and opportunities for the future.
